Description
The fish is the most ancient symbol of Christianity. The Greek word for fish, ICHTHYS, consisting of the initial letters of the words of the first non-Christian creed: “Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior” and until today the fish is used in this function by Christians, such as a sticker on the rear of so many cars.
Fish also represent fertility and renewal. Just as fish are born in the water, Christians learn during baptism a rebirth through the water, and they will be “fishers of men” according to the command of Jesus. Traditionally, fish is the meal for Good Friday, as well as for the Christmas Eve or the first day of Christmas.
